On March 25, 1908 a group of people got together
and made an application to the Federal
Government of Agriculture to form an Incorporate
under the Livestock Record Association. The name was “Canadian Pony Society” and the object of the group of people was to keep a record of the breeding of Ponies and to publish authentic information regarding the same. At that time the following breeds of ponies were under the umbrella of the Canadian Pony Society:- Shetland, Welsh, New Forest, Polo & Riding Ponies, Exmoor, Iceland . Connomara and Hackney. In 1916 the Canadian Hackney Society decided to take over the Hackney Pony Section of the stud book. In 1921, the Annual Meeting amended the constitution to omit New Forest Ponies and Exmoor Ponies and substitute the Mountain and Moorland Breeds. In 1950, the Society became affiliated with the Canadian Livestock Records and the Annual Meeting in 1980 the Iceland Ponies, New Forest Ponies and also Welsh Ponies were removed from our registry. The 1993 annual meeting it was decided to delete Dales and Exmoor Ponies from the Society. Therefore, all the breeds of ponies left in this Society are the British Riding Pony and the Shetland Pony. |
